The Purpose of Mu Alpha Theta
Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. It is dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. As of June 2016, more than 113,500 students are Mu Alpha Theta members at more than 2,300 schools in the United States and in 20 foreign countries.
Westlake High School's chapter of Mu Alpha Theta participates in both the Log One and Rocket City contests.
Mu Alpha Theta Registration
Applications for Mu Alpha Theta for the 2018/2019 school year can be turned in from Monday, September 17th - Tuesday September 25th. (The deadline is 9/25/18 at midnight--NO EXCEPTIONS.) The application can be found on the link below. Completed application forms and any donations are to be turned in to room ** * or emailed to [email protected] Returning members and club officers must also complete an application.
MU ALPHA THETA APPLICATION 2018/2019
We request a donation of $10 for new members and $7 for returning members. These donations are used to cover the costs of certificates, dues and other miscellaneous expenses. If donating by check, please make it payable to "Westlake High School"
**Be reminded that no student will be excluded from participation regardless of their donations**
California law guarantees students a public education free of charge, including extracurricular activities. Students are therefore entitled to access to educational activities, and to all materials, supplies, equipment and uniforms necessary for the educational activity, without charges or security deposits. There are some narrow fee authorizations in the law, and we ask for and encourage donations to assist us in our effort to continue providing high quality courses and activities, but all donations are strictly voluntary.
